Smoke-free campus
Regional West Medical Center 4021
Avenue B Scottsbluff, Nebraska 69361

Because we are dedicated to the health of our community, Regional West Health
Services is an entirely smoke-free campus. As a regional health care leader, we
strive to provide an environment that promotes wellness, prevention and
treatment. Our smoke-free policy is a positive way for Regional West to practice
what we teach.
Smoking has dangerous health consequences, not just to those who choose to
actively smoke cigarettes, but also to those who are subjected to second-hand
smoke. According to the American Cancer Society, cigarette smoking accounts for
at least 30 percent of all cancer deaths.
Second-hand smoke is responsible for 3,000 lung cancer deaths each year in
non-smoking adults and is the third leading cause of preventable deaths in the
United States after active smoking and alcohol use.
Regional West's smoke-free policy applies to all patients, visitors and
employees and includes:
- The hospital facility
- Medical Plaza North
- Medical Plaza South
- The South Unit
- Parking lots
- All property grounds
- Rugger Drive
- Off-campus properties
Patients who are not able to stay nicotine-free during their hospital stay
can ask their medical provider to prescribe a form of nicotine replacement
therapy.
